Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to use PADL?

1. What is PADL, really?

PADL is a way to think like a painter. It helps you see more clearly, sort out what matters, and make intentional decisions using the same fundamentals painters rely on again and again.

2. Do I need to know art theory to use this?

No. You don’t need to memorize terms or study ahead of time. PADL uses simple language and focused questions to guide your eye. The understanding builds naturally as you use it.

3. Will PADL tell me exactly what to do?

Not exactly—and that’s intentional. PADL helps you decide what to do next rather than prescribing a single answer. The goal is confidence and judgment, not dependence.

4. Who is PADL for?

PADL works for artists who want structure, clarity and momentum. The fundamentals never stop being useful—your awareness of them just deepens.

5. Why does PADL keep returning to the elements of art?

Because nearly every painting challenge comes back to them. Styles and materials change, but line, shape, value, color, edges, and space are the tools painters have always used to make strong work.

6. What’s the best way to use PADL?

Use it while before, during and after you paint. Ask one clear question or upload one image at a time. PADL is designed to narrow your focus—not overwhelm you.

7. Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan to use PADL?

No. PADL works the same way on both the free and paid ChatGPT plans.

The tools work exactly the same either way. You’re not getting a “lite” version of PADL on the free plan.

The main difference is how long you can stay in the conversation at one time.

With the free plan, you may need to pause between steps if you reach a daily message limit. With the paid plan, you can usually work through longer, uninterrupted sessions.
