Something I Noticed

Life goes on when we're not painting.

Lori, my very first private student at my CHROMA studio,  reached out recently on Instagram. I asked her if she was painting and she wistfully replied back, "no". Life for her, however, was full of exciting summer travel plans.

Oooo! An opportunity to see new places and things through the elements of art, and of course take loads of photos.

When you spend time with line, shape, color, value, texture, and form, they come with you everywhere. The shadow shape follows you across the morning road. You can't un-see it.

While the brush sometimes rests, the eyes never do.

From My Bookshelf

My favorite inspirational art book is Robert Genn's The Twice Weekly Letters. I purchased the book in 2023 and am going on my second reading of it.

I read a little bit each morning when I first get up and have tea. It only takes reading one or two letters before I'm off down a rabbit hole searching a new word or artist. It's such a joyful part of my morning and gets me thinking creatively.

It's not in publication anymore but it looks like you can still get a used copy on Amazon for around $25 - well worth it!
