All good paintings start with an intention or inspiration. It’s the thing that catches my eye. Sometimes I feel a spark and know it will be good painting.

Sunsets are beautiful, so beautiful that paintings of sunsets often don’t do them justice. This one was spectacular. It was off a 5000 feet high mountain. I was driving up the mountain, turned the corner and BAM, this was what I saw. My goal for the painting was to show the spectacular colors in the sky and balance them with the shadowy dark areas that were not catching the light anymore.
